General Information~

Our location is part of the difference!

The classroom located at the Briteland offices in Vernon is equipped with computer hardware and software and audio/visual aids designed to deliver training based on currently available technology. All sessions are 4 hours in duration beginning promptly at 8:30am or 1:00pm. Students are asked to arrive at the centre 15 minutes in advance of the start of a session. Plenty of free parking is available on the same level as the training centre. Class sizes are limited to 12 with each student working at their own computer workstation. Self-serve light refreshments are available in our comfortable lounge.

The fee for each session is $50.00 + GST. Substitutions are permitted. There is no refund for cancellations received within 10 days of the scheduled date of a session. For every four short sessions attended by the same person he or she is entitled to one free session.

One-on-One training is available at Briteland or at the student's location for $75 per hour including instructor's travel time if outside of Vernon or Coldstream. Product specific training of commercial or private users on licensed application software can be arranged using Briteland facilities or on-site. Cost will vary and will be quoted upon request.

Our short, focussed sessions are part of the difference!

Computer users today are to be found everywhere and they come in all ages, backgrounds and experience. Their applications vary from the very basic to advanced depending upon interest and facilities available, but all share a common need - to learn how to make effective use of the technology with minimum frustration and hassle. Briteland has created a learning centre in Vernon designed to address this need for users in the North Okanagan.

Most computer training available is product specific. The products typically involve some kind of application software to help you prepare a report, send an e-mail, create a spreadsheet, organize some photographs, perhaps investigate your ancestry. etc. This is all well and good if you know exactly want you want to do with a computer or other digital product like a camera and know how to acquire and load the software. Most new users, and a surprising number of people who have owned a computer or a camera for some time, know very little about the capabilities of what they possess. Attending a product specific training course may help, but often what happens is that the neophyte user comes away with a bad case of information overload, more confused than ever and uncertain as to how to proceed. Briteland's approach strives mightily to avoid that situation with the following short offerings for new or inexperienced users of digital products followed by services intended to reinforce what has been learned:

BRITELAND COMPUTER TRAINING SERVICES - Session Overviews

Standard registration fee is $50.00 per session plus GST*.

Acquisition of knowledge, particularly as it relates to technology, is not a one-time experience. To foster retention and recall of information transferred at a training session and going forward as subject matter changes, Briteland provides the following resources and facilities to anyone who has attended a training session:

    • At the Briteland website a student is given access to a full set of notes for each session attended in printable format. Students without access to the Internet can print module pages during the session.

    • A Help Desk is accessible by e-mail at training@briteland.com Any questions relevant to the subject matter of a session may be submitted by e-mail and will be answered directly or in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS) section.

    • Each module contains a section posing questions each month to test retention of knowledge of information provided at the session.

    • Each module contains a section noting any significant changes in technology, products and/or applications relating to subject matter.

    • Briteland stocks a complete line of computer products and for anyone purchasing a computer or anyone having attended a training session and already owning a computer who is not able to connect to the Internet we will provide a low cost, dial-up connection and e-mail service.

    • Subject to space availability within 90 days of first attending, a student may repeat a training session once at no additional charge.

    • Anyone completing the Introduction to Computers and Windows Basic modules and is capable of operating a computer independently can drop-in to Briteland and use the facility, enjoy a cup of coffee or whatever, and spend up to an hour using a computer for $10. All computers have Internet access. Drop-in hours are posted on the notice board in the lounge and on the website.
